In a previous Career I worked for Alabama PBS for 35 years. Alabama PBS is the oldest PBS Network in the United States, & I was always involved in the Engineering Department, & I retired in 1995 as Director of Broadcast Engineering. One of our greatest challenges at the 9 Transmitters was lightning striking our Tall (265 ft to 1000 ft) Transmission Towers, & the Resulting Electrical Surges damaging the underground water pumps that supplied water for our on duty Engineers, & their families whom we often allowed to live on site for 24 hour security. Their was also a risk to life from these Lightning Induced Surges.
